Note making is one of the effective ways of learning and remembering the topics from the textbook.
Normally, there are two types of notes:
Linear Note: It is one in which you take the dictation of your teacher. Usually by heart what is given to you by the teachers. Even though this technique is effective but it is a very time consuming and time-wasting method.

Key Note: It is one of the best methods to make notes on your own, the reason being that you use only keywords or key phrases, which will avoid unnecessary grammar or Linear grouping of words.

There are four types of keynote making, they are:
1) Marking the keywords from the textbook :Select a paragraph to read. Read the whole paragraph once to understand the topic. After that select one keyword or a key phrase from each sentence and underline it with a pencil or highlighters.

2) Separate Notebooks for keywords:Take a notebook preferably unrolled Notebook for separate subjects. Write the keywords of each chapter in this notebook. Use it as a reference for revision.

3) Filing of keywords:This one is very much similar to the above one. Here you make a detailed keynote of each chapter methodically and you make a file out of it. Use an A4 sheet of paper to make notes, pin the sheets of each chapter separately, and file them.

4) Mind Maps: A Mind Map is a powerful graphics technique, which provides a universal key to unlocking the potential of the brain. It harnesses the full range of cortical skills- word, image, number, logic, rhythm, colour and spatial awareness- in a single unique powerful manner.

How to make a mind map:

1) Start in the centre with an image of the topic, using at least three colours.
2) Use images, symbols, codes and dimensions throughout your Mind Map.
3) Select keywords and print using upper or lower case letters.
4) Each word/ image must be alone and sitting on its line.
5) The Lines must be connected, starting from the central image. The central lines are thicker, organic and flowing, becoming thinner as they are radiant out from the centre.
6) Make the lines the same length as the word/ image.
7) Use colours in your code- through the Mind Map.
8) Develop your style of Mind Mapping.
9) Use emphasis and show associations in your Mind Map.
10) Keep the mind map clear by using radiant hierarchy, numerical order or outlines to embrace your branches.

KEY NOTING:Keynoting is a creative technique of making notes from a lecture or textbooks.

1) A group of keywords is called Keynote.
2) Only nouns, verbs or adjectives or phrases can make keywords.
3) A logical arrangement of keywords should be done so that you get the complete picture of the topics.
4) Only 10-20% of the words from the paragraph can be made as keywords.
5) Use only a white sheet of paper to make keynotes.
6) Practice at least ten paragraphs until you become an expert in keynoting.

Example of keynote making:

FISHING:
Fishing is one of the old occupations of human beings. Even today, it is a very important occupation. It can be carried on the traditional way on a small scale or in a modern way on a large scale. Fishing includes the catching of all types of fish such as crabs, seals, whales and shellfish from the river, seas and oceans.
There are three types of fishing. They are freshwater fishing, Coastal fishing, and Deep Sea Fishing. Freshwater fishing is carried out on Inland water bodies such as rivers, lakes and ponds. Coastal fishing is carried on along the seacoast. Deep-sea fishing is carried on in the open seas and oceans. The methods of fishing include the use of small nets and small boats. Fish are caught for their consumption or in the local market. Modern techniques of fishing include the use of modern ships and travellers. Moreover, the ships have refrigeration and fish processing facilities and they act as floating factories. They remain in the sea for a long period. The fish that they catch is for commercial purposes. Japan, the USA, Russia, Norway, Sweden and Britain have developed commercial fishing on a large scale.

KEYNOTES:
Oldest Occupation- two types traditional and modern- catch different types of fish freshwater fishing in an inland water body- coastal fishing in sea-deep sea fishing in open seas and oceans - traditional method use- small net and boat- self-use or market- Modern method use- ship and travellers own refrigeration remain in the sea- floating factories-advanced countries have developed modern methods - large scale.

LEARNING METHODS:

1) Over Learning: Learning topics by repeating them several times or learning by referring to several books.
2) Whole Learning: Material should be studied as a whole rather than bit-by-bit. Apply this technique to novels, articles and related books.
3) Part Learning: Divide the chapter into several parts or groups and learn it in a span of 3 or 4 days. Here apply, divide and learn. Apply this technique to textbooks.
4) Spaced Learning: Study for 50 minutes and take a break for 10 minutes. Apply this to textbooks and even during exam time.

5) Unspaced Learning: Apply this to essays, novels and storybooks. Here you study for 2-3 hours at a stretch without any break.
